An interview on getting into AR, from a computer science degree to a beer-inspired Lens.
Ollie's Snap ARchitects interview is a video filmed at a Snap event and published on Snap's Lens Studio YouTube channel on 10 October 2023 as "Your Creativity Can Get You Far": AR Technologist Ollie Tyler. Introducing himself as a Lens Creator from London, Ollie talks about how he got into AR, the projects that shaped his career, building with Snap's tools and what he wants the next generation to know.
He explains that growing up he never expected being creative to lead to a career, and studied computer science. After working in the games industry he moved into advertising, and Snap releasing Lens Studio gave him his way into AR. His first paid project was for a beer brand: an interactive beer pump clip Lens that tracked your face and made you the character behind the beer.
He describes the Jiggle Jiggle lens he made with Louis Theroux and Jason Derulo, which put your face into the car from the artwork, moved the car as you moved your head, and played the song. He names accessibility as his favourite thing about Lens Studio, and imagines AR in five years translating conversations or identifying flowers as you look at them.

I'm a creative technologist with 10+ years in AR. My filters have been viewed more than 32 billion times across TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram, and I'm a Snapchat ambassador. Through my company, tnySocial, I build custom apps, games and AR for artists, influencers and brands, made to fit their brand and their audience. Before that I built AR campaigns at Zappar and led AR development at Poplar Studio. From London, based in Los Angeles.
