A panel on building the next generation of AR creators in TikTok Effect House.
"Building The Next Generation of AR Creators in TikTok Effect House" was a panel at AWE USA 2022, held on 1 June in Grand Ballroom A on the Creator track. Greg Feingold, TikTok's Effect House community lead, hosted Ollie alongside fellow effect creators Laura Gouillon and Paige Piskin, six or seven weeks after Effect House launched. AWE published the full recording on its YouTube channel.
Greg introduced Ollie as a London-based creative technologist whose effects, including Crying Eyes, Red Flags and Star Sign Guesser, had passed 10 billion views. Ollie talked about coming to Effect House from AR for commerce and marketing at agencies, and how Crying Eyes took off once paired with the Tracy Beaker "just hay fever" sound. He recalled leaving Virgo out of Star Sign Guesser, explained how Red Flags dealt out three traits so people could say whether they would date that person, and showed a new effect recreating the music video for a Gipsy Kings remix of "Bamboléo".
His advice to new creators was to start sooner and publish early, because you never know which effect will blow up. AWE later wrote the session up on its blog as "Is TikTok the Next AR Giant?".

I'm a creative technologist with 10+ years in AR. My filters have been viewed more than 32 billion times across TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram, and I'm a Snapchat ambassador. Through my company, tnySocial, I build custom apps, games and AR for artists, influencers and brands, made to fit their brand and their audience. Before that I built AR campaigns at Zappar and led AR development at Poplar Studio. From London, based in Los Angeles.
