Emoji Challenge is a TikTok effect for the emoji acting trend, where you say the same word the way each emoji in a row would say it. The format already existed on TikTok; Ollie made the first effect for it, putting the row of emojis on screen for you.
His own video with it, posted on 5 August 2022 with the caption "The emoji accents dont play", has more than 320,000 plays. The challenge took off that month. On 10 August, AR creator Laura Gouillon posted a video using the effect, captioned "Filter by @ollietylerr", and two days later she posted her own take, the Emoji Word Challenge, which also gives you a random sentence to read out. That video credited Ollie as the inspiration ("IB: @ollietylerr") and has more than 5.9 million plays.
According to TikTok's effect analytics, Emoji Challenge has had more than 270 million views and has been used in more than 350,000 videos. Dexerto and Screen Rant both published guides to the emoji challenge in August 2022 as it spread.
